How Affiliate Marketers Can Give Google the Slap

Wordpress Affiliate ClickBank Plugin
I’ve used a lot of different affiliate marketing methods and find one of them to be the most effective.

Article marketing is cool, except the article directory gets to keep all the ad revenue and they are getting more particular
about what articles they accept.

Review sites are OK, but does anyone really trust the reviews they read on those sites anymore? Most people know by now
that review sites are just disguised sales pitches and aren’t honest reviews.

Social media is fun, but it has its limits. It’s more about socializing, less about doing business. Sure, you can make connections
there but at the end of the day the lion’s share of your profits likely isn’t coming from social media.
Social media sites are not the most important place on the web.

So what is?

Your own blog. In my opinion, there’s nothing like having your own blog, especially if you use WordPress. WordPress makes
blogging much easier and more effective.

Your blog is your castle. YOU get to decide which content to put on it and don’t have to wait a week for someone else to approve it.
YOU get to keep your ad revenue. If you use Google Adsense, however, chances are it’s more like Google Adcents. And don’t get me started
on Google slaps.

That’s why it’s more effective to promote affiliate products on your blog rather than rely on Adsense. Affiliate
commissions have a much higher payout than ad clicks.

One option is to have a “blog sponsor” section in your sidebar. Place ads here (preferably with eye-catching graphics
rather than just text) that link to select affiliate products and also your own products if you have any.

Another option is to occasionally write a blog post that promotes an affiliate product. The posts should contain
solid content in addition to the sales pitch. Write the post as if you were talking to a friend so that it doesn’t come
across as too sales-y.

Don’t forget to have an opt-in form on your blog so that you can collect the email addresses of your blog readers.
You can occasionally promote affiliate products through email to your list. You should also send out emails that
contain helpful, engaging content. You can use your blog posts as content but you should also use original content
in your emails too. Mix it up.

There’s one type of text ad that I highly recommend and that’s WordPress Affiliate plugin that automatically
inserts professional-looking ads for Clickbank products on your blog: Wordpress Affiliate ClickBank Plugin

One of the more costly components of marketing on the internet is traffic generation. PPC is a very effective and fast way to drive targeted traffic to your site but it can cost a good amount of money. SEO is a great means to generate ‘organic’ traffic but often times to do this right you need to pay a professional to set up your site.

When most people start marketing online they are normally contending with limited financial resources. It is a well known fact that to get a successful start online you need traffic. So how can the typical start up entrepreneur generate traffic while minimizing their business costs?  Let’s start with the free social networking sites found online and quickly narrow it down to one of the top social networking sites today; Twitter.

This mini blogging site can be a perfect source of free traffic for any business if it is used correctly.

Let’s look at 5 simple ways you can maximize the use of Twitter for your business purposes and all without spending a dime.

Look for Openings

When ‘bantering’ back and forth with other ‘tweople’ on this site participate in conversations that interest you or those in which you have something of value to offer.

Look for opportunities if available to share information about your business if it is related to the conversation.

Don’t Be Pushy

Don’t ever hijack conversations with your unwelcome ’sales pitches.’ Even when warranted share your business information ‘casually’ and always have a reference link available to share with others.

Additionally be sure to share useful information about your industry that DOES NOT directly link back to your business. Also offer this information when most appropriate and not as an apparent ‘lead in’ to a pitch from you.

Don’t ever ‘push’ your way into a conversation and start marketing what ever it is you are promoting. It won’t work and will not be appreciated however it will be remembered!

Complete Your Profile

Share some of your personal interests and have a picture if you are comfortable enough with that to post in your profile. Let people know you are real.

Transparency is the key when participating at any social site. Think about it, it is a social site therefore if you appear ‘cloaked in mystery’ or ’stand-offish’ little chance many will want to associate with you.

Now if you are however currently involved in the witness protection program or some type of espionage finding an appropriate avatar may work over the short term…

Personally if I have people who respond to me or direct message me and their personal info is ‘protected’ or ambiguous I discard them without thought. I like to know who it is I’m talking with.

Don’t Hide in DM

Direst messages on Twitter are good for those times in which the conversation is ‘truly’ private. For the most part you do want to have others see your posts even if they are not directed at them. Comments do not have to be directed at someone in order to attract them to your posts resulting in them following you. This is how you attract new followers and this is EXACTLY what you want to do.

Post Good Content

You want to supply useful or interesting content for the other participants but remember to be human. An insightful, well timed and perhaps humorous comment, if you are prone to those, will help to reinforce your ‘human’ side. Often times this will make more of an impact then the ’structured’ content that is normally the result of research.

You are at a social site so socialize!

Marketing on the internet can be very lucrative but for the typical start up entrepreneur a close eye must be kept on business costs. One of the most critical components involved in this stage of a business’s life is traffic generation. Being able to attract targeted traffic to your business site economically would significantly boost the chances of a successful start towards getting into profit quickly. As we mentioned above tapping into some of the free social networking sites can help supply you with plenty of free traffic. In particular we spoke of 5 ways to make effective use of Twitter, one of the top social networking sites online today. By using Twitter in the manner mentioned above there is no reason your business could not experience profits early on with little or no investment in traffic generation.

Affiliates, who want to make money online do not care about affiliate program features, they care about the fact, whether they can make money with that program. So they are looking for benefits, the end results. And how to reach them.

This is a strong message to the sellers. They have to approach new affiliates by telling about benefits, how they can make money online. And not only telling about them, but to persuade them to take action through multi step online marketing systems.

This system approach is very different from the typical sales pitch online, where the seller lists all the online marketing jargon terms and the end result is, that the program cannot make the difference, to stand out from the crowd.

If your internet business strategy is to offer affiliates a directory type of a website content, your challenge is, how you can do it with a personal style. In the way, that your target group see your unique business plan. The answer is, that you must not sell affiliate programs, but benefits which only you can offer, if they take the challenge and start as your customers.

Your solution to this can be your expertize in some special area, like in SEO. You can tell, that with the SEO system, you can help them to make their businesses to succeed. This means that all your appearance online must tell this same story about benefits, which your customer can reach with your help and SEO.

As an evidence from your skills, you can use a list of testimonials on your website. Everybody of those persons will then tell the same basic story about your SEO skills, but with their own words. In this way your readers can get several opinions about your USP.

This approach, where you concentrate on the information sharing, and not selling, is the most powerful internet marketing strategy. It means an honest sharing, ethically right recommendations, mainly from your own marketing experience. Think, how different this approach is from the majority of online sales pitches, which promise riches overnight.

I also think, that it is important to keep your window narrow, so that you will concentrate on certain strategies only, or strategies, which are relative to each other and will form something bigger together, like: SEO, article writing and distribution, blogging and niche marketing.

When you plan your online business plan, you can prepare a list of several benefits, which only you can offer. You must have a main promise, but also several side promises. These side promises must be relative to the main promise, parts from it. This is important, because there are always customers, who think, that the main promise is okay, but does not fill their special needs.

When they realize, that one of the side promises is exactly, what they are looking for, your strategy is working. However, these side promises must not mess the brand image and not to widen your strategy too much, but to be parts of the main promise.

Building a list is a fantastic way to build your business. In order to make your list as profitable as it can be you need to set up a successful autoresponder series. In order to build a successful autoresponder series you need to accomplish a couple things.

In this article I want to lay out the exact steps you need to take in order to build a successful autoresponder series.

1. Build Relationships

Your number one goal in your autoresponder series should be to build a relationship with your subscriber. The bigger and better your relationship building efforts the more you will make from that list. People buy from people they know, like and trust. So, if you can build a relationship with your readers you will make that much more money.

2. Content

Your autoresponder series does not need to be all sales pitches. First, you will not be able to build relationships that way. Most importantly, people will stop reading your messages if everything you send them is a pitch.

People do not like to be sold. They like to build relationships. So, you should add valuable content that helps build relationships with your readers and subscribers. This will go a long way to making your list a more profitable one.

Also, make sure you always at least add a link for someone to buy something. I will explain this in more detail in the next paragraphs.

3. Sales pitches

Okay, so you do need to send sales pitches to your list. If you want to monetize your list, you need to ask them to buy stuff from you. If you do not ask them to buy stuff from you you are not going to make any money. So, you do need to add sales pitches into the mix. But, do not send sales pitches every single time. You want to mix it up. Send them content and sales pitches.

Here is one important note… even when you are sending content always add a link to buy something at the end of the e-mail. This trains people to know that you are going to try to sell them no matter what. I know I said do not send sales pitches every time, but you do want to give them something to buy every time. This trains your subscribers and readers to buy from you.

So, even when you’re sending content always add a postscript or something of that nature at the end of the e-mail that allows your subscriber to buy something.

Although there are many ways to market your business online, I only use free techniques because they have the chance to go viral.

Viral marketing is a form of word of mouth marketing that becomes viral. What this means is that your campaign spreads like a virus. Viral marketing will allow you to reach market segments you might not otherwise reach.

Another advantage of using viral marketing is that as your message spreads, your marketing automates itself. By automating your marketing, you continue to drive traffic to your sites and make money without doing any work.

Below are seven ways to help you unleash a viral marketing campaign in your business:

1. Write articles.

This is, of course, my favorite internet marketing technique. The reason is that it allows me to:

-build valuable one way backlinks to my websites,
-increase my rankings in the search engines,
-brand myself as an expert,
-show my potential customers how I can solve their problems.

Showing my potential customers how I can solve their problems is the most important element of writing articles. The reason is that you are adding value to your products by giving information, and sharing with others what you know without asking anything in return. It also gives you an opportunity to show whether or not you may solve the customers’ problems.

Most internet surfers are tired of sales pitches; they want information. Give good information.

2. Send out a press release.

Press releases are another way to build one way backlinks to your website. It’s also a way to tell others about your business and show them what you can do for them. Online press releases allow you to connect directly with potential customers.

To write an effective press release, you want to concentrate on news about your business. Show others how you will solve their problems.

Like articles, press releases are often syndicated across many sites, and this allows your press release to go viral.

3. Build a Squidoo lens.

Squidoo is the brain child of best selling author and entrepreneur Seth Godin. A Squidoo lens is like a one page minisite on a specific topic or product. Lenses allow you to give as much information as you want about your products or services. It also allows you to rank well in the search engines because Squidoo ranks well in the search engines.

Squidoo lenses offer readers a chance to vote on lenses, as well as bookmark them. The social element of this site makes lenses highly viral. Create a good lens, and you may go viral quickly.

4. Participate in social marketing.

Social marketing is an easy way to connect with both potential customers and others in your industry. This is an opportunity to get out there and “strut your stuff.” In other words, you have a chance to demonstrate your expertise.

Social marketing encompasses a wide variety of techniques, including social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, blogging, social bookmarking and videos. All of these are highly viral because they are interactive.

5. Write free reports to give away.

Although this technique has been around a long time, it’s also still effective. Mark Joyner used it with his free ebook, “Search Engine Tactics.” (This ebook has been downloaded over one million times.)

The way to make an ebook go viral is to first put it in a format everyone may use. PDF (Portable document format) is the way to do this because Adobe works on any computer. The other thing you want to consider is making the report brandable.

What this means is that you allow others to add their details, or the affiliate links to your report. Those who want to give away your report use a “brander” to add their affiliate IDs, as well as a link to their websites if you allow it.

This gives others incentives to promote your report. More importantly, it gives them an opportunity to make sales. Branding increases the chances of your reports going viral.

6. Build a network of joint venture partners.

Although this technique takes the most work to do, it’s also one of the most lucrative ways to market your business online. When you build a list of joint venture partners, you have the chance to reach more potential customers in your market. Not only will you reach more potential customers in your market, you also have the opportunity to gain new affiliates for those who want to sell your products or services.

The secret here is to provide as much support to your potential partners as possible. Make it easy to join your affiliate program and include plenty of viral marketing materials like articles, reviews, and brandable reports.

7. Use Tell a Friend Scripts.

A “Tell a Friend” script allows visitors to recommend your site to others. There is, however, a right and a wrong way to use this type of script.

The most important thing to remember here is to give your visitors an incentive for using your script. Ask them to recommend your site. In exchange, give them a bonus for recommending you. Make the bonus exclusive, something they can’t get anywhere else.

One of the biggest advantages to using viral marketing in your business is that it is free, and once you create a successful campaign, it multiplies itself exponentially. Look for ways to market your business using viral marketing. A successful campaign will put your marketing on autopilot.

There is a misconception in service businesses that your marketing’s most important function is to promote what you do, or in other words, your services. But the fact is,  the most important function of your marketing should be to establish that you are knowledgeable, capable and can be trusted.

Most people don’t do business with people they don’t trust, especially when it comes to buying services. When they buy your services they are, in fact, buying the talents, skills, and personalities of YOU or your team of professionals.

Even if you have the lowest prices, if your prospect doesn’t trust you, it will be difficult to close the sale. This is the basis for Education-Based Marketing.

Education-Based Marketing is a powerful marketing strategy that establishes trust and credibility using educational messages. It is the direct opposite of traditional marketing, which uses selling-based messages.

People are tired of hearing worn-out, old sales pitches. Barriers shoot up the moment you begin delivering a sales pitch. In contrast, people sit up and listen when you share important facts and expert information that help them make a good buying decision.

Determining Your Educational Message

Imagine stepping into the mind of your prospect and listening to their mental conversation at the very moment they decide to begin shopping for your services. What questions are they asking themselves? The secret to attracting qualified prospects early in the sales cycle is to find out the answers to those questions and use them as the basis for your educational marketing message.

For instance, suppose you are a marketing consultant.  Perhaps your prospects are asking themselves, “How can I market my business at the least cost?” or “Why are my marketing efforts not succeeding?”

Now that you know what your prospect’s questions are, now you can craft a marketing message that answers those questions.  In the process of answering those questions you’ll be building a relationship of trust with your prospect.

How To Package Your Educational Marketing Message to Generate Qualified Prospects

Once you have developed your educational message you need to package it and offer it for free in exchange for your prospect’s contact information. This is critical. Effective marketing is not just a matter of getting the word out but more importantly, getting a response back.

You can package your educational message in a format your prospect will respond to such as a written special report, an audiocassette, a video tape, an email course, a CD-ROM, a seminar, or even a toll-free phone message.

How To Deliver Your Educational Marketing Message

Now that you have developed and packaged your education message, you should develop strategies and processes to give it away. To do this you must first identify all the “customer touch points” in your business and offer your educational message at each one of those touch points. Common customer touch points are your business phone, website, advertising, publicity, networking conversations, public speaking events, etc.

For instance, instead of ending your business phone conversations like this,

“Well John, thanks so much for calling and if you ever need my services just let me know.” End your phone conversation with an offer like this, “Well John, thanks so much for calling. By the way, I’ve just developed a great special report that talks about the top 10 common mistakes that people make when doing their taxes. If you’ll give me your address I’ll send it to you free of charge. Would that be okay?”

You’ve just accomplished three very important things with this telephone strategy, (1) you’ve generated goodwill by offering a valuable free gift, (2) you got your prospect’s contact information so that you can continue to market to him, and (3) you now have a reason for a follow up phone call after he receives and has read the special report.

Resist the Urge to Give a Sales Pitch

It’s easy to set your services business apart using Education-Based Marketing because most of your competitors are using selling-based marketing. The beauty of Education-Based Marketing is that you give prospective clients what they want, information and advice — and remove what they don’t want, a sales pitch.

By offering helpful advice, you establish yourself as an authority because prospects see you as a reliable source of information. Be careful not to give in to the urge to include a sales pitch with your educational message. This will only erode the trust you have established and make you the same as your competitors in the eyes of your prospect.

Instead, after you have provided some helpful information you should warmly invite your prospects to call you, visit your website, come to your office, or take advantage of your free offer for a coaching session or consultation.

Conclusion

Education-Based Marketing captures prospects earlier in the decision process and establishes a relationship of trust, resulting in dramatically higher sales and closing ratios. Those service businesses that seek to develop a relationship of trust by delivering a non-threatening educational message will position themselves as their prospect’s first choice from which to buy  your product or service.
